3 Similar Simple Machines

Did you know these three similair simple can lift heavy objects they are the screw, the wheel and axle, and the pulley. A screw works by roatating around, a wheel and axle has a stick with wheels, and the pulley lift objects with a metal pully.

Introduction

Yesterday I watched a video of an introduction and wrote hooks.

First we got to practise writing hooks by writing hooks about our teacher. Hooks catches people's attention by using surprising facts and a question.

Next we wrote hooks about how chocolate is made, the life cycle of a butterfly and how fireworks work.

After that we wrote an introduction for the 3 texts.

Did you know that butterflies only live for a few weeks? The butterfly life cycle starts with an egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and a butterfly. Did you know that it takes 28 to 30 days to complete the life cycle.

Did you know it takes about 400 cocoa beans to make one pound of chocolate. Chocolate is made by roasting cocoa beans, removing nibs and lastly blending the nibs to form a chocolate liquid. The chocolate takes 5 or 8 days depending on what chocolate it is.

Did you know that fireworks were made over 2000 years ago. The parts of a firework are the cylindrical paper container with string, a fuse, a bursting charge made with gunpowder and stars for the reaction. This process only takes 2 hours.

Next time, I should work on my introduction to add more information.

Balancing

This week I was passing balls to my partner while balancing

First our group started passing a netball to each person in the group by passing the netball from our chest to the other person.

I enjoyed passing the netball but it was hard because I wasn't balancing very well so I wouldn't catch the ball.

Next our group started passing a rugby ball to the other person in the group by putting the ball at the side of our hip a and pass it.

I enjoyed it because I was balancing very well so I could catch the ball.

Then our group moved on to passing the hokey ball by one of the group members rolling the hokey ball and the other group member stoping the ball and hitting it to the other group member.

It was fun but I couldn't catch the ball because the balancing made me shake so I could miss the ball.

After our group moved on to passing and catching the frisby by facing forward to my partner and passing the from our side of the hip and throw it.

I enjoyed it but it was very hard because I couldn't catch my balance.

Lastly our group moved on to passing the basket ball to another person in the group by dribling the ball and passing it from your chest.

I enjoyed it but the dribling messed up my balance.

Kitchen labels

I worked on an activity that includes objects you can find in the kitchen.

First I got pictures of objects that are found in the kitchen.

Next I put the pictures in a google draw.

Lastly I labeled the objects in maori.

I also learnt directions in maori such as: kei runa which mean down and kei raho which mean up.

I enjoyed the activity because the directions can help me in the class.

Calendars

Calendars show us the day, week or month.

There are 12 months in a year, they are; January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

Months have 28, 30 or 31 days.

There are number patterns on a calendar by looking for four connecting days for example 20, 60, 100.

Knowing before and after number sequence and 7 timetables help us reading a calendar.

Problem Solving

I made problem solving questions about the analogue time.

First, I wrote a sentence about the analogue time. For example, Lucas went to a birthday party at 8:23 and left at 9:50. How long did Lucas stay at the birthday party?

Afterwards, I added pictures of the analogue clock to support my demonstration.

I enjoyed this subject because I got to write my own problem solving questions.

Tile Twister

I found my tipping point by playing a game.

First we revised what tipping point is.  A tipping point is when you are about to fall over.

The game we played was basically twister but we got to hold our balance from the postitions.

I enjoyed it but it was hard because I was struggling to balance.

The three simple machines

There are three simple machines that are similar to each other and they are the wedge, the lever, and the inclined plane.

Cause and effect

We used cause and effect to help us write an explanation.

We put an explanation about the life circle of a butterfly together.

First we wrote the cause and effect sentences on the first stage for eggs. The female butterfly hatches her eggs in a safe spot, when they hatch they are caterpillars.

Next we wrote the cause and effect sentences on the second stage for caterpillar. Caterpillars are incredibly hungry and therefore they have to eat leaves and flowers.

After we wrote the cause and effect sentences on the third stage for chrysalis. Caterpillars make themselves a chrysalis in order for them to protect them selves.

Lastly we wrote the cause and effect sentences on the last stage for butterfly. The chrysalis opens and a butterfly emerges, this causes it to fly and begin the life cycle again.

I found this activity helpful because the cause and effect can help people understand the cause, effect, and causal language sentences.

Passing

This week I learned how to tell people to pass an object.

We revised the words that Wheae Odie taught us last week which was tenei, tena, and tera.

I learnt how to say"Hoatu te ... ki te taha maui" which means "give the ... to the left side".

I enjoyed the subject because it can help me in the class.

Comment Thread

Comment thread is having a learning conversation with another person on blogger. I commented on Bethany's blog post Cause & Effect.

I commented that I liked Bethany's explanation and then asked what her favourite causal language phrase was. she answered back saying her favourite causal language phrase was the reason for that. Bethany asked what my favourite causal language phrase was.

I commented back saying my favourite causal language phrase was consequently.

Basic Fact Boxes

I did speed demon for times table. I got 5 minutes 28 seconds to complete it and also got 90/100.

Next time I do a basic facts I should increase my time into 4 minutes or 3 minutes.

Ninja Kid 2 | SSR Selfie

I read 52 pages of (Ninja Kid 2) by Jeremy Ley

This book talks about a boy that is a ninja and has to stop a rampage of animals and robot machines. He has a new jetpack and his crazy ninja skills to stop it.

I really enjoyed the book because the main character is a ninja and I am interested in ninja's.

Simple Machines

Simple Machines are used to help people work easier.

There are different machines to help people work easier.

A lever is used to lift heavy objects from a low level to a high level.

A pulley is used to carry heavy objects from a low level to a high level.

A wedge is used to split objects apart. For example, an axe can be used to split wood apart.

A screw is used to attach objects together.

An incline plane is used to get heavy objects from a low level to a highlevel.

A wheel an axel is used to get heavy objects from place to place.

These simple machines are still used today around school.

Keyword list

All text use a range of information to tell the reader what you learnt.

A Keyword is a word that can unlock infomation such as dodge, conscientious objectors, bayonets, and reckoned.

Keywords can be linked together to show the main idea, for example Allie, Central Power and Power struggle show the main idea of WW1

Keywords can grow our vocabualry, for example Latrine is just a toilet, but its from the army. I can use this if I wanted to.

Keywords help you understand what they are and helps you unlock more information.

L.I to use Keywords to retell a story.

Time

Digital and analog time help us what time of day it is.

Digital time displays numbers for minutes and hours and uses am or pm to tell us what time of day it is.

Elapsed time is how much time has gone by. Skip counting in 5's helps caculate how much time has elapsed.

Using an analog clock makes it easier to calculate elapsed time.

Cause & Effect

Cause and effect fit within the mechanisms for the structure of an explanation.

Cause is what made something happened for example, Someone broke his vase

Effect is what happens after the cause for example, My Dad is mad

Casual language is the language in between the cause and effect. for example, therefore, because, consequently.

An example of cause & effect, my Mum told me to do the laundry and therefore I did the laundry.

Here is a task you can complete to practise. Make a copy and share it with me to check.

Cause & effect help you form and explanation for mechanisms, as you can explain the cause and effect and then elaborate further.

Manners

Manners are used when your working with other people. Manners use formal language

Use manners to show respect to other people.

When you fart or burp use exuse me, After receiving a gift, use thankyou, when you want something from somone use may I or please.

People use manners when they want something or want to do something, use manners at all times.

Show manners to people to get manners back.

Problem solving

I did problem solving to figure out the answers in the digital and analogue time questions.

First I got in a group a tried to figure out the answers in each question.

Second we discussed what the answers were and then put it in a document.

Lastly we wrote why we think the answer is right and put that in the document.

I found this easy because I learnt digital and analogue time.

Balancing

We did balancing activities in our enviroment

The first photo was balancing on a wall.

The next photo was balancing on the school playground.

The third photo was the people in your group balancing on each other.

The forth photo was trying to balance with the least amount of contact with the people in your group.

I enjoyed the activity but I needed to be alot better at balancing.

Postitions

I learnt about maori prepositions that can help me in the classroom.

The prepostition I learnt were tenei which means here, tena which means there, and tera which means over there.

I enjoyed the subject but I need to practise more as I get some of the maori prepositions mixed up.

Basic Facts Boxes

I did speed demon up to 20. I got 6 minutes 28 seconds to complete it and also got 96/100.

Next time I answer them I should be alot faster by practising so my time would be 4 mins or 5 mins.

Hot Dog Art Time | SSR

I read 47 pages of Hot Dog Art Time by Dan McGuiness

The book talks about 3 animals entering an art contest in an art museum, the most famous painting gets stolen. Hot Dog, Kev, and Lizzie have to chase down the robber and send him in jail.

I really enjoyed Hot Dog Art Time because they have to catch the robber and send him to jail

Explanation

I wrote an explanation about how plants grow.

First, I wrote an introduction about the explanation. A plant is important because some plants like trees give us oxygen for us to breathe in.

Next I wrote the mechanisms about how a plant grows. Water- Growing a plant requires water to pour on a plant. The water will sink into the soil to be absorbed by the roots.

Light- Growing a plant requires light to help the plant grow. The light gives energy to plants so it will grow.

Air- Growing a plant requires air to help the plant breathe. The air avoids plants from turning brown or yellow.

After I wrote a summary about how plants grow. plants require water to sink in the soil to be absorbed by the roots, light to give energy to the plant to help it grow, and air to avoid the plant from turning brown or yellow.

Next time, I should be more specific on the introduction and follow the structure of TIMES.

Balance

Group B got to balance in different ways and tried different techniques to try not to fall.

First Mr Ogilvie taught group B about what balancing is and postitions to not fall. Balancing is to find your tipping point so you won't fall.

The first activity group B did was to balance on a bench. We had to get past the other people on the bench.

The second activity group B did was to balance on a soccer ball for as long as possible. My partners stood on the ball up to 5 seconds but lost balance many times.

I thought balancing on the ball was the hardest because I lost balance many times.

Simple machines

Simple machines are tools to help people work easier.

A lever is used to lift heavy objects from a low ground to a high ground.

An incline plane is a ramp to move heavy objects from a low ground to a high ground.

An axel wheel is used to move heavy objects easier.

A pully can lift objects from a low level to a high level.

A screw is a tool to attach objects together.

A wedge is used to cut hard objects.

Simple Machines are still commonly used today to move objects.

Questions Maori

L.I to learn classroom questions

I learnt questions that can help me in the classroom.

The questions I learnt were kau marama which means do you understand and kau mutu which means finish or finished.

I enjoyed the subject but I should practise more as I get some maori mixed up.

Analog Clock

Analog clock are a piece of technology that help tell time.

A clock has 3 mechanisms.

The second hand moves around the clock the fastest.

The minute hand is the longest and moves when the second completes 1 rotation a full rotation of the minute hand is 1 hour.

The hour hand moves the slowest and moves between the big numbers.

An analog clock requires you to look outside to know if it is  morning or afternoon.
