Table Tennis Balance

Today we were using table tennis equipment to help us with balance.

Mr Ogilvie showed us how to hold the tabble tennis bat properly. Hold the handle like shaking a hand and put one finger on the flat platform like using a gun..

Then we were bouncing the ball on the racket with the forehand. I was bouncing the ball 53 times.

Then we were bouncing the ball on the racket with the backhand. I was bouncing the ball 32 times.

Lastly we were playing a game of table tennis with the challenger and the champion. The challenger got to serve, the serve name was called a drop serve. We had to drop the ball and hit it up after it bounced.

I had lots of fun playing table tennis because it helped me learn how to properly hold a racket and drop serve.

Memory

This week I played a game that we got to remember where certain cards are.

We played a game where there are cards and have to flip 2 cards, if the 2 cards aren't the same you flip them over, if you found the same cards you have to say what the picture is in maori. I had no cards that were the same.

Then I looked up on maori dictonary what things were in pictures.

I enjoyed the activity because I learnt new words in maori.

Mozzarella Cheese

We wrote 3 introductions.

My first introduction was a basis fact. A basic fact is something that is true. Mozzarella cheese is a dairy product and is made by buffalo milk, heat the milk, cool the cheese, soften the cheese and stretch the cheese.

The next Introduction was a question hook. A question hook is telling the reader something they don't know about the topic. Did you know that mozzarella cheese has more protein than cheddar cheese and is made from different milks.

The last introduction was a explain emotion. Explain emotion is showing the reader an emotional feeling while reading. Mozzarella cheese is a tasty and delicious dairy product that people eat. To make it you need buffalo milk, an oven, fridge, and warm water.

Chronology

I learnt about skimming and scanning.

Chronology means an order in time that event is occured. We used the learning skill called skimming and scanning. Skimming is like an airplane and skipping through the text to find a keyword, Scanning is like a helicopter and stop to look at that specific paragraph or information that you need.

First we used skimming to look a pictures to figure out how they would connect.

Then we applied skimming to find keywords and scanning to find facts in chronological order.

I enjoyed this activity because we used skimming, skanning and chronology to help do are work easier.

Measurement-Length

 I learnt about length measurement.

First we wrote four of the measurements, the abbreviations, and how many measurements make another measurement. For exampe, 100 cm = 1 m.

Second I watched a video on how to measure different objects without a ruler or a measuring tape.

Lastly I found an object to estimate the length and to measure the actual length of the object.

I enjoyed the subject because learnt the units of measurement.

Balancing and Teamwork

This week we were passing frisbees to others while using teamwork and balance.

First one partner got to throw the frisbee and the other got to run and catch it.

Next I got to run, jump and catch the frisbee so I could throw it into the goal.

Lastly we played a game called ultimate frisbee. There was a bib team and a non bib team, they got 2 frisbees and 2 goals for each team to put it in, when they pass a frisbee to another player they have 3 seconds to do it.

I enjoyed the activity because I learnt new technice on how to throw a frisbee.

Prepositions

I continued with prepositions.

The prepositions I continued were (Runga) means top, (Roto) means in and (raro) means bottom. I learnt how to say the prepositions from saying "kei hea te ..... ....." which means where is the ...... ......

For example, Kei hea te aporo? means (where is the apple), Kei runga i te peke means (the apple is in the bag.

I enjoyed the subject but I need to practise more as I get some of the Maori prepositions mixed up such as Runga and roto.

Party Popper Design

We did marketing for toys.

First we looked at Mr Wongs design for a party popper. Then Mr Wong told us to make a plan for the party popper.

Next we listed the parts for Mr Wongs design, Our market was gamers, the parts for the design were a plastic cup (small), a rubber band, folded paper, confitii and a tooth pick.

We then did the updated design for Mr Wongs party popper. The updated design parts we listed were a bigger plastic cup, a fortnite design, a bigger rubber band, cardboard, bigger confitii and a tooth pick.

Lastly we did rational, we had to get a reason why we chose new parts for the updated design.

This task was easy because our group were able to think of a design for the party popper.

Basic Facts

I did speed demon for times table. I got 5 minutes 21 seconds to complete it and also got 90/100.

Next time I do a basic facts I should increase my time into 4 minutes or 2 minutes.

Bunny vs Monky

I read 4 chapters of (Bunny vs Monkey) by Jamie Smart.

This book talks about a bunny and a monkey bringing as much of their friends and trying to have a war with them, when one team gets attacked they attack them back.

I really enjoyed the book because it's funny how much work each team had to put in to win the war.

Values

CONFEDENCE

We have the confedence to take risks with our learning and to share our learning with others, we are focused on our future.

ATTITUDE

We show a positive attitude to our learning by making good choices and we participate in all oppotunitys.

RESPECT

We are tolerant and respectful af all people in our community and take care of our enviroment.

EXCELLENCE & INNOVATION

We set ourself's challenging goals, share ideas, and think about our learning.

During our HPE activity group B weren't able to follow the values because everyone was not following the instructions, playing with the equipment and not doing what they're supposed to do.

Flip, Slide, Turn.

There are 3 different sorts of movements. Those 3 movments are reflection, rotation and tranlation.

A flip/reflection is creating a mirror image of something.

A rotate/turn is something that is facing in different directions.

A translation/slide is moving something to a any position.

Maori prepositions

I continued with Maori prepositions.

The prepositions I continued were (maui) means left, (waenganui) means middle and (matau) means right. I learnt how to say the prepositions from saying "kei hea te ..... ....." which means where is the ...... ......

I enjoyed the subject but I need to practise more as I get some of the Maori prepositions mixed up such as maui and matau.

Explanation Topic Planner

I planned two different sorts of topics. In the two topics I did, adding mechanisms, using cause and effect sentences, and linking the information source.

First, I worked on a topic on how glass is made. The mechanims for this topic were silica sand, furnace, float bath and blow tube.

Next, I did a topic on how mozzarella cheese is made. The mechanims for this topic were Buffalo milk/water buffalo, heat milk, cool the cheese and warm water.

This activity was hard because I found it hard to think of a topic and could'nt finish the third topic.

Table Mat

I created a table mat and also used skimming and scanning for a book called Againts The Odds.

First we did skimming and skanning for our books. Skimming is like an airplane, it quckly reads through the book to find the keywords that will help you alot, skanning is like a helicopter, it stops and reads the paragraph that you are on.

Next I made a table mat to define 2 keywords, write facts, ect. Shortly after I got to swicthed with the other people in my group to proofread my work.

Finally I wrote questions that the author might think about and the questions I thought about while reading.

I enjoyed this activity because we used skimming and skanning to read easier.

Prepositions

 I learnt about Maori prepositions.

The prepositions I learnt were (waho) means out, (roto) means inside, (mua) means front and (muri) means behind. I also learnt how to say the prepositions from saying "kei hea te ..... ....." which means where is the ...... ......

I enjoyed the subject but I need to practise more as I get some of the Maori prepositions mixed up such as mua and roto.

Ninja Kid 3 | SSR Selfie

I read 52 pages of (Ninja Kid 3) by Anh Do

This book talks about Ninja Kids Uncle is an evil villain and has to be stopped. While Ninja Kid and Grandma were chasing him down his Uncle Kane he cursed them and ninja kid can switch into Grandma and Grandma can switch into ninja kid.

I really enjoyed the book because the main character is a ninja and I am interested in ninja's.

Directions

 I learnt about maori prepositions.

The prepositions I learnt were (runga) means up, (raro) means down, also I learnt "Kei runga ki te kutikuti", This means - above the sciccors.

I enjoyed the subject but I need to practise more as I get some of the maori prepositions mixed up such as tatua and maui.

Balancing

This week I learnt about balancing.

First we started passing the hokeyball. We were rolling and hitting the hokey ball while balancing.

It was hard because the balancing made me shake and I missed the ball.

Next we moved on to balancing an egg on a spoon. We were placing the spoon on the floor and used power to get it up while balancing.

This was hard because my balancing made me wobble and I dropped the egg.

After we moved on to balancing a soccerball. We were balancing a soccerball on our heads and also kicked the ball as many times while balancing.

This was not easy to do because the ball couldn't balance on my head.

Then we moved on to volleyball. My partner had to dig and set the volleyball to the other partner while balancing.

This was fun to do because I kept my balancing straight so I could hit the ball.

Lastly we moved on to tennis. One partner had to throw the tennis ball and the person who is hitting the ball has to balance.

Hitting the ball was the hardest because the balancing made me wobble and couldn't keep myself straight.

Flip, rotation and translation

Flip is a reflection copying an object or someone in reverse. For example, when you look into a mirror it shows a reflection of yourself.

Rotation is turning someone or something in any direction. For example, when a car moves around a corner the wheel is rotated.

Translation is sliding someone or something from one place to another place. For example, on a playground children go down the slide.

Cause & Effect introduction

We wrote a cause and effect sentence for each of our mechanisms

I wrote the mechanisms for how chocolate is made and how fireworks work.

I wrote the mechanisms and used cause and effect to put inside the mechanisms.

Chocolate:

Chocolate is made by roasting the cocoa beans and removing the nibs in order to blend it to form a liquid. You then pour it into a mold  so it can set.

The shape and size of your mold effects the chocolate, when you put the chocolate in the freezer to harden.

Fireworks:

Cylindrical paper containers are used in order to hold all the firework parts together.

The fuse is used to create delays in order for the firing of multiple firework displays.

The bursting charge is used when the explosion goes off; sometimes  stars are included with the reaction.

Next time, I should work on my mechanisms to add more information.

Reciprocal Reading

We used reciprocal reading on What we Invested

The PDF was about what people in  WW1 needed to survive the war and the things they did.

While reading, the clarifiers role was helpful bacause they'ld find inportant words or hard words such as: conscription, veterinarian and battalaion and explain these so we could all understand them.

I enjoyed doing reciprocal reading because it helped me  unpack the main ideas of the story.
